Soap Factory Project

As part of another self-help and income-generating project, the Lazarus Foundation has established a cooperative soap production facility in the Nepalese village of Okkarpauwa. The aim is to provide families of people suffering from leprosy with a stable and sustainable source of income.

The soap factory, supported by the Lazarus Foundation Europe in 2023, has now been successfully completed and is already in active production.

Official trademark registration is planned for 2025; distribution of the soap products is to begin immediately after registration. The proceeds from sales will be used to finance school fees for children, improve housing and living conditions, and cover treatment costs in hospitals.

Thanks to the outstanding quality of the soap products, the factory has attracted great interest and positive feedback—not only from residents of neighboring villages, but also from government officials who have already visited the production facility.

The leprosy patients employed at the factory take great joy and pride in their work, which not only gives them financial independence but also boosts their self-esteem and gives them a new sense of community.

If the project proves successful in the long term, there are plans to expand the concept to other leprosy communities in up to six additional villages.

The Lazarus Foundation continues to work hard to ensure that leprosy patients and their families can live a dignified life and maintain their dignity.

As our visits to Nepal have shown, such support is still urgently needed.
