Medical aid programme

As part of our medical aid programme, Dr Thomas, a specialist in internal medicine, provided medical care in the rural communities we visited during the mission. In every village, numerous residents sought his help and asked for a medical examination.

Despite the challenging conditions – limited infrastructure, high patient numbers and a very tight schedule – Dr Thomas took time for each patient personally. With palpable empathy and a high degree of professional care, he carried out the examinations, explained the respective complaints in detail and communicated the necessary medical steps in an easily understandable manner. This sensitive approach strengthened the villagers' trust in medical care and helped to reduce their inhibitions about seeking medical treatment.

Some of the necessary medication had already been prepared in Germany and additional supplies were procured locally in Nepal. This made it possible not only to make immediate diagnoses, but also to provide patients with the necessary medication straight away. In addition to acute treatment, Dr Thomas provided supplementary recommendations for follow-up care and advice on improving everyday health habits in many cases.

The mission had a noticeable and lasting effect. For the local population, who otherwise have very limited access to medical care, the assistance not only provided immediate health relief, but also new perspectives on dealing with illness and preventive care. Many families expressed their deep gratitude, and the positive response underscores the relevance of ongoing medical engagement in this region.

The experiences from this mission clearly show that targeted, professional and at the same time humane medical assistance can not only alleviate acute suffering, but also strengthen health awareness in the communities in the long term. The programme thus makes an important contribution to the sustainable improvement of local healthcare.
